IT'S NOT HOW HARD YOU SWING BUT HOW WELL YOU SWING!!
SWING SPEED RADAR
The Swing Speed Radar is a small electronic gadget that is positioned near the golf ball and measures the speed of a golfer's swing as the clubhead whizzes past.
The Swing Speed Radar is only about the size of a clock radio (and a smaller one at that). It comes with a metal stand that allows the unit to be positioned near to the golf ball and facing the path of the golfer's swing. It runs on three AA batteries.
NEW GAME IMPROVEMENT TOOL
Golfers have long recognized the value of monitoring their swing speed and golf ball speed, this information tells you how solid you really are hitting the ball.
New to the market, the affordable Swing Speed Radar™ is a valuable aid for players of all ages and skill levels, and is a powerful tool for coaches and instructors. And everyone enjoys using it!!
The Swing Speed Radar™ was a runner up for the Product Of The Year award at the "The Super Show", THE trade show for the sporting goods industry. The Swing Speed Radar™ was an early sellout at the PGA Merchandise show.
OPTIMIZE YOUR EQUIPMENT
Are you hitting the right driver? Fitting your swing to the right driver head and shaft combination is critical to hitting a long golf ball. Professional golfers are constantly tweaking their equipment, in particular the shaft specifications are optimized to their swing. The golf swing radar will give you data points to optimize your golf club swing speed. Golfers are using the Swing Speed Radar™ to optimize the club characteristics like shaft stiffness that best suit their swing.
OPTIMIZE YOUR SWING
Is your swing consistent? "It don't mean a thing if you ain't got a swing!" If you ever played great one day then fall apart the next. FEEDBACK! Feedback during training sessions will help you build a consistent golf swing. The golf swing radar will provide you excellent and accurate feedback on the club speed as you make adjustments to your mechanics.
The Swing Speed Radar™ conveniently provides real time velocity feedback that assists coaches and instructors in measuring their students performance improvement and in trouble shooting swing mechanics.
SWING SPEED VS. DISTANCE
MICROWAVE DOPPLER RADAR TECHNOLOGY
Unlike most radar speed guns, a long range capability is not required. Powered by three AA-size batteries, the Swing Speed Radar™ transmission level is well within FCC requirements and prescribed safety levels. It is microprocessor-controlled, and indicates calculated miles-per-hour clubhead speeds, ranging from 40 to over 200 miles-per-hour, on a large easy-to-read liquid crystal display. Kilometer per hour units of measure can be selected, if the user prefers.
OTHER SWING SPEED TOOLS
These devices fall into three areas; optical, ultrasonics or mechanical. Mechanical devices are attached directly to the club, this invasive tool introduces a huge error into the measurement by changing the club weighting: Please do not use a mechanical device to measure your swing speed. Optical Devices require excellent lighting conditions to operate, the clubhead color may give a false (or failed) speed reading. One optical sensor unit on the market needs to be placed very close to the tee which is a distraction during the swing. Ultrasonic frequency devices need to be placed in awkward positions and are sensitive to false readings from clubhead "waggle" and fast take-aways. The Swing Speed Radar™ has none of these limitations.
The Swing Speed Radar™ is based on a Microwave Doppler Radar Velocity Sensor. The unit measures swing speeds from 40 to 200 miles per hour to an accuracy within ±1% of the acutal club velocity.
HOW TO USE THE SWING SPEED RADAR™
Short version for measuring golf swing speed: The Swing Speed Radar™ is positioned on the ground about four feet behind the tee, in line with the clubhead approach toward the ball. It can also be placed in a forward location about 6-8 inches directly away from the tee. Clubhead speed is measured in the vicinity of contact with the ball.
The preferred location of the swing speed radar for measuring clubhead speed is close to, and directly away from, the tee position. The radar must be relatively close to the tee, but not close enough to get hit by the clubhead. The stand on the radar should be set to put the radar in a stable position with the face of the unit towards the tee. It is recommended that the radar be no closer than 10 inches from the tee. The radar should be no farther forward than the tee itself to prevent it from being mis-hit off the clubhead toe. Angle the swing speed radar about 45 degrees relative to the clubhead swing path. This forward position is recommended for ADVANCED players.
An alternative location is to position the swing speed radar on the ground about 4 to 5 feet behind the tee or location where the ball would be struck by the club. The radar must be in line with the path of the clubhead approach to the ball location, with the display facing the ball location. Tip: Place the radar about 4 feet behind the tee for swings with irons and about 5 feet behind the tee for woods.
The DISPLAY WILL FLASH if a duplicate of the previous speed is measured. This gives you feedback if you have consecutive swings at the same speed.
The swing speed radar is designed to ignore clubhead speeds below about 40mph (64km/h), this is to eliminate response from most "waggles" and takeaways. Clubhead speed will be measured in the vicinity of the ball, which is relative to the energy of the swing imparted to the ball at impact.
Backyard Practice. When you practice away from the range or golf course, be sure to use a plastic or foam ball to provide a hitting target. You might notice a 5-10% reduction in swing speed when swinging without a ball. Using a foam or plastic ball target allows you to make comparisons to actual ball contact swings.
READY IN A SECOND
When a swing is detected by the unit, the READY indicator bar will go out momentarily while the speed is calculated by the microprocessor, and then the display will indicate the measured swing speed. In less than a second, the radar will resume operation and the READY bar will light in preparation for the next swing. There is no need to reset the radar after each swing - just keep swinging!
EXPERT GOLFERS ONLY - MEASURE GOLF BALL SPEED
The radar can also be used to measure ball speed. You need to place the unit 3 feet in front of the ball tee position - THE UNIT MUST BE FLAT ON THE GROUND WITH THE DISPLAY FACING TO THE SKY. Be sure you are an EXPERT GOLFER before placing the unit in this position - the unit is not warranted from direct or indirect hits by golf balls or golf clubs. The ball needs to travel in a zone directly above the meter. When the unit is in this position, the ball speed is measured. Ball speed is valid for launch angles of 12 degrees or less. No conversion factor is necessary when the unit is used to measure ball speed in this manner.
This is the only golf swing device on the market which can measure both club AND ball speed. You can try hitting different golf balls and see the change in ball speed off the club. There are several long drive competitors who use the unit in this position, they are pleased with the feedback the unit provides during training. Remember, the unit is not warranted from direct or indirect hits by golf balls or golf clubs.
During the development and engineering of the Swing Speed Radar™, models were extensively tested, including performance evaluation and calibration analysis with a state-of-the-art mechanized golf club swing system. It has been demonstrated that the measured velocity is accurate to within a ±1% error of the actual clubhead velocity. The Swing Speed Radar™ has been in continuous use at a golf training facility in Scottsdale, Arizona since late January, 2003.
